Coming 2 July from 5-10 pm!

There is so much amazing stuff happening as part of the Mill Road Midsummer Event. Its amazing to think that its nearly here.

Check out the ‘Lineups and Venues’ page for (mostly) comprehensive information on what’s happening when. Here are a few highlights:

  • An opening ceremony in Gwydir St Car Park at 5 pm
  • A family-friendly area at Ditchburn Place with crafts, stories and a bouncy castle
  • Music, food and beer at Gwydir St
  • Cocktails and DJs at the Lloyd’s Bank car park
  • Reggae and shopping at Ash Co-op
  • A retro young persons’ chill-out space at the Bath House
  • A craft and artisan market at Bharat Bhavan, the Indian Cultural Centre next to Mill Road Bridge

Other things to look out for include a 30th birthday celebration for Railway House; a celebration to remember the Battle of the Somme at Mill Road Cemetery; guided tours of Hughes Hall (Mill Road’s local Cambridge College!); late opening hours from Urban Larder, Culinaris, Bacchanalia, and Garden Kitchen; and special musical guests at Earl of Beaconsfield.

Things are being added all the time, so its worth checking for all the details – but even more than that, its worth coming down on the day to see for yourself.

Thanks to Prana Indian Restaurant, our core sponsor and to sponsors Anglia Ruskin, Haart Estate Agents, and Fired Up Pizza.

Eat Cambridge on Mill Road!

Eat Cambridge is an annual festival, now in its 4th year, celebrating all of the delicious things to eat in drink in and around Cambridge. A headline event on 7th May is followed by two weeks of fringe events all over the city. It’s a great opportunity to try new things, or to take advantage of special events at your favourite places.

Mill Road will be represented at the banner event at the Guildhall, with Culinaris Fine Food and Spices and Hot Numbers both making appearances.

Between 8 May and 22 May, there will be events at Culinaris, Hot Numbers, Garden Kitchen, and Limoncello. You can find the full Eat Cambridge event schedule at their website, or take a look below to find out more about what’s going on along Mill Road.

7 May:
Coffee and Chocolate at Hot Numbers, 5/6 Dale’s Brewery, Gwydir St. at 7 pm (tickets at the cafe’s website or in cafe)

8 May:
Garden Kitchen in Bloom! – a special all-day event at Garden Kitchen, 82 Mill Road, celebrating the best seasonal snacks and treats. Its the first of a series of pop-ups at Garden Kitchen over the course of festival, so keep checking back.

14 May:
Eat Mill Road Walking Tour with Caroline Biggs and Alan Brigham from 2:00-3:30 (book here!)
Cupping & Coffee appreciation at Hot Numbers at 7 pm

19 May:
Culinaris Cheese, Beer, Bread & Butter at Culinaris, 88 Mill Road, from 7-9 pm. Email or stop into the shop

21 May:
Coffee Cocktails at Hot Numbers, 7 pm.

Throughout the Festival: Limoncello tasting at Limoncello, 212 Mill Road – a great deal at £5 (vs. the usual £15)! Stop in anytime during the Festival to try a range of limoncello varieties.

It’s worth taking in as much of the Festival as possible, but if the options have you overwhelmed, Mill Road is an amazing place to start.

ATCM Awards: We Won!

Awards 2016 009.jpg

Earlier this year, Mill Road was shortlisted for a digital engagement award by the Association of Town and City Management (ATCM). We were thrilled to be grouped with Norwich and Falkirk, two bigger, slicker operations – but even more thrilled to win!

The ATCM staff said the thing that set us apart was the extent to which traders were involved. MillRoadTV, which has profiles and interviews with traders, councillors and local residents, was a great example of the ways in which Mill Road has come together online. They also liked that we had done it all with no budget.

Well done to Mill Road, and thanks to all the traders and residents who have made our digital community as vibrant as our bricks-and-mortar community!
