The grand opening of Relevant Records in November 2014 was eagerly awaited by all of Cambridge. With over 1000 followers on Twitter beforehand and plenty of coverage in the Cambridge News, Relevant Records is catering for music fans across the city.

There’s an upstairs cafe serving cakes from Afternoon Tease, Gourmet Brownies in Ely, pizza, crumpets, tea and coffee and a basement dedicated to vinyl. They have an eclectic range of new and secondhand records, plus the basement serves as a nice gig venue too.

It’s been celebrated as a fantastic addition to Mill Road. With a great vibe, funky retro decor, good food and coffee and a niche product, this new business has everything going for it.

This is Hot Numbers Coffee, one of Mill Road’s best cafes. Winner of the Discover Cambridge competition in January 2013 for Best Independent Cafe in the city, they roast their own coffee, put on a range of fantastic events, open their doors to community groups, as well as serving great food and generally having fantastic atmosphere.

This is the cafe to come to for any kind of informal meeting, or to work on your laptop, for a lunch time snack, an impromptu piano performance or something to do in the evenings.

Hot Numbers has recently taken over the next door gallery space and they show a range of local art work. This cafe hosts many great evening events, including film showings, gigs, Drink and Draw (a social for artists) and other meet ups.

The Black Cat Cafe opened in 2005 and is a much beloved indie cafe on Mill Road. It is owned and run by Nancy, who home bakes all of the cakes on the counter. A great place for teas, coffees, smoothies, milkshakes, breakfast and lunch. They also do an interesting array of evening events too, including psychic suppers, murder mysteries, art exhibitions, small benefit gigs and more.

Good food, lovely little venue. A bit pricier than other cafes but food is freshly cooked and locally sourced.
