The YMCA Charity Shop opened at 8 Mill Road in October 2015. It is more curated than many charity shops, with a distinct mid-century aesthetic. It has a wide variety of tableware, home decor and a few books and children’s items. However, it is making a name for itself as a destination for vintage clothing and accessories.
Opening Hours: 10 am – 6 pm, Monday-Saturday
The Children’s Society is Mill Road’s newest charity shop, located next to Relevant Records in Romsey. As the name would suggest, they have a great supply of babies’ and children’s items, with plenty of finds for adults as well.

Oxfam on Mill Road is one of our best charity shops and won recognition for it’s enterprising shop displays and quirky interior. Manager Matthew Redmond was keen to ensure that the shop reflected the alternative and creative community of Mill Road.
Visit the shop to find secondhand books, cds, clothes and gifts as well as a range of art canvases, recycled vinyl items, plus the ‘Play Me I’m Yours’ custom painted piano that was on display on Mill Road as part of a public art project in 2012 (see www.streetpianos.com for more info).

This is Pat, one of the volunteers working at the RSPCA Bookshop on Mill Road. As well as volunteering at this shop, Pat has been actively involved in the Traders’ Association and works for the Friends of Coldhams Common (a green space near to Mill Road).
In October 2013, the RSPCA Bookshop won a Cambridge Business Improvement District Award for best local knowledge. During a mystery shop visit, the staff at the RSPCA bookshop were the most helpful in terms of pointing out what was available to see and do across the city. Their award is on display in the window!
As you would expect, all income generated from book sales goes towards providing animal care services in Cambridgeshire.
The shop itself has all kinds of fiction and non-fiction books, including some antiquarian and academic. Take a visit to pick up a good read while donating to a good cause at the same time.
