Hope Street Yard is just off Mill Road and could be described as a bit of a hidden gem.

The Yard features a range of small businesses; there are a number of antiques dealers, Romsey Retro and Fantasia, Electric Transport Shop and Dutch Bikes, Oz’s Alterations, Makers’ Gallery and Enarsha (psychic services). The yard also includes studio space for working artists.

The Yard plays host to a number of local events, including Eat Cambridge, Romsey Art Festival and they always put on something special for Mill Road Winter Fair.

Find the yard either via Hope Street (by car), or via the alleyway between The Old Chemist Antique Centre and Cambridge Building Society (by foot). Parking is available. While you’re there check out the permanent mural installations by local artists. There is one by Mr Penfold and one by art collaborative LittleBiggs.

The Old Chemist Shop Antique Centre boasts one of Mill Road’s most historic shop fronts. It retains original building features from years ago, plus it has a beautiful hand-painted traditional sign.

Inside you’ll find all kinds of antique and vintage items, from toys, jewellery, magazines and homeware, to clothes, shoes and other accessories. Owner Tansy offers to hire her stock to be used for props in theatre and photography.

Tansy always makes an effort to put on an interesting window display and dresses her husband up as Santa for Mill Road’s Winter Fair! She is a participating member of the Mill Road Traders’ Association and takes an active interest in neighbourhood issues. She also volunteers her time to support Romsey Garden Club.
